Winnipeg Extravaganza

We're back from Winnipeg!

Our 1 year old niece, Violet is checking out the new horse we made for her. I was pretty relieved that she wasn't terrified of it.

I have a small pile of boxes that have been stored at my Fathers house since I left for Montreal 6 years ago. Every time I go back home to visit, I take a few things back with me to Montreal, so my Dad can have his basement free of my crap. It's mainly things from my childhood like old toys (He-Man, Fraggles.... which now have a home in my studio) some books and photo albums. My Mother had saved alot of this stuff for me and I'm always amazed at what I find.

Yeah, that's right. That's me all dressed up and pissed off about it. I was supposed to be my Uncle's ring bearer but I made a stink about it and didn't end up doing it. Eep! Sorry Uncle Danny.
I can't remember the name of this book because the cover is gone. But it's a pretty creepy story of a cat that eats a shitload of people and then is chopped open by a woodsman, spilling all the women and children out. It's pretty dark and reminds me of an old Eastern Eurpean folk tale. (Everyones getting chopped by an axe in those stories.... yeesh!)

This book is hilarious! It's filled with instructions on how to make costumes out of paper and pipecleaners.
The results from the book..... My sister dressed like an angel and my brother and me as pirates, blowing her away! Take that you smelly angel!

Marcel Dzama

I also had a motherload of Stylus Magazines. It's a bimonthly magazine thats published by students from the University of Winnipeg. They always feature a pretty cool local artist's work on the covers.

Slomotion

Marcel Dzama again

And this is the latest issue featuring art by Devon Kerslake.

I also bought a bunch of music from the 'Peg.... enjoy.

Thrift Store Heaven

Elaine took this pic of me madly digging through a
4' x 4' bin of fabric at an undisclosed location last July.
Yes, I'm actually IN the bin

Hello friends! As Tyson mentioned below we're heading to Winnipeg for a week to visit our families, but you know I'm also going to take some time to hit a few thrift shops and find some great old goodies for you ladies and gents. I'm focusing on shoes, purses and jewelry on this trip, with the mandatory fabric shopping excursions. So stay tuned for pics of some of the great finds we'll be bringing home, I'll try to post 1 or 2 pics while we're away

See you in a week!

Don Pendleton & Furni colab

The hearthrobs from Montreal's Furni and artist Don Pendleton have teamed up to create two unique alarm clocks that will be put up for auction. Get this, the wood to build the clocks came from a good pal of Furni's, Jason Frenette's 200 year old barn, in the Swiss alps. Then once they finished building the clocks they were handed over to Don to add his amazing style to the piece. All proceeds go to Elemental Awareness. The two clocks are now up for grabs, so bid here and here, as often as you like!

Off to the 'Peg.

So, we're taking off for a week to Winnipeg as of today! Our good pal Garry will be taking care of HQ, so be sure to drop by and say hello. Bring him a Diet Coke and he'll love you forever.... seriously.

New 8Track

It's Friday, so it's time for another 8Track mix. For some reason, I woke up today in the mood for some cheesy funk. It's weird but I usually wake up every morning with some God awful song in my head on a continuous loop. I can't put into words how brutal it is to wake up with some shitty song by some shitty boy band in your head.... maybe I was in NKOTB or 'N Sync in a past life..... those guys are all dead, right? No?! Well, one can dream..... sigh.

Well at least this morning I had James Brown's "The Payback" in my cranium. Awesome.

Bye.
I love you.

Fringed & Feathered

Sorry I've been a little MIA lately, so much craziness and business going on with Norwegian Wood, which I'll try to better update here on the HQ blog. Which brings me to my point....

Fringed and feathered earrings! I've just added these new designs to my Etsy shop, and of course have brought a few pairs down to HQ for our lovely customers to get first dibs on. For those of you in Ottawa I'll also have a whole slew of them for the "Tarts and Crafts" sale that's going on this weekend at the Jack Purcell Community center, and will hopefully have enough stock to leave a few pairs with the lovely girls from Victoire Boutique. It's a busy week!
